Biography

Born and raised in Powell River BC, Christina Peressini studied History in Art at University of Victoria and Communication Design at Langara College. She had her first solo exhibition in 2023 at The Cultch Gallery and her work has been shown at Federation Gallery, VanCity Credit Union, Silk Purse Arts Centre, and CityScape Community Art Space. She has been a member of CARFAC since 2024 and an exhibiting member of the Federation of Canadian Artists since 2022.

Artist Statement

Working predominantly in cut and layered paper, Christina Peressini explores the interplay of two and three dimensions, light and shadow, strength and fragility. Her most recognizable works are elevation maps of the BC coast and depictions of trees and their component parts: constructed in earth toned layers of paper, and spaced in low relief. At times minimalist and abstract, and at other times detailed and accurate, her work invites viewers to lean in close and consider their own relationship to this part of the world.

Her style is influenced by over two decades spent working as a graphic designer, with an early focus on paper goods and print design. Her principle aim is to produce a body of work that is both quiet and captivating.
